Combine Stats with Pictures to Make Them More Interesting

One powerful way to make your statistics even more interesting is to combine them with pictures. A great example of this is from Bill Gates’ TED talk on energy, where he places the digit zero (along with text) on an image of the Earth taken from space:


Let’s examine at another slide, also from Bill Gates’ TED talk. Notice how the statistic, “Paducah, Kentucky, has enough uranium to power the US for two centuries,” is made much more interesting as a result of having been placed on an image that shows thousands of uranium barrels:
